      Founder & President

      Royce Brown is the Founder and President of READ AfterSchool. READ AfterSchool grew out of his passion for children, their learning and the overwhelming need for an environment supportive of homework during afterschool care.  Royce has been teaching physical education in Hillsborough County Public Schools for 24 years, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Physical Education from the University of Tampa. He is also a swim coach at the club, high school and college levels. Royce is proud to provide a quality afterschool care program that meets the recreational, academic and nutritional needs of students.

      Devon Young has worked with READ at Ballast Point for the past four years, spent time in the classroom interning at Ballast Point Elementary School, and holds her degree in  education from the University of Tampa.  She loves helping the children develop at READ and loves the amazing connections she and her colleagues are able to make with students during recreation, and by helping with school work.

      Beth Monsour taught Kindergarten in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where she lived for over 20 years before moving to Tampa 6 years ago. She earned her education degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and is a huge Tarheel basketball fan! She took some time off while raising her three children but continued her love of educating children through volunteering, being active on PTA and Governance Boards in North Carolina and South Tampa and substitute teaching at her children’s preschool.   In her spare time, she is often seen either at a swimming pool, lacrosse field or soccer field cheering on her three children. Beth is very excited to join the READ team and can not wait to get to know all the students!

    • Michelle Johnson

      Michelle Johnson

      Assistant Site Manager

      Michelle Johnson is the Assistant Site Manager at Ballast Point.  She has been serving the needs of ESE students in Hillsborough County at Tampa Bay Blvd Elementary, Dale Mabry Elementary and Ballast Point Elementary for over 20 years. Michelle has that rare gift, that “It” factor that helps her make deep connections with the READ students and loves to share their development with parents. Michelle has the uncanny ability to heal a student’s personal “boo boos” while making it a teachable moment. On any given day, you will find a student running up to Michelle telling her how their day went.

      Mrs. Homza is a full time teacher at Ballast Point Elementary where she teaches Science, ELA, Math and Social Studies in intermediate grades. “It is my 6th year teaching and I absolutely love it. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher! I look forward to the fun of helping your children and my students learn and grow.”

      Jaymie Bacci is a senior at The University of Tampa studying elementary education. She grew up on the shore of New Jersey which explains her love for the beach. Jaymie has spent multiple summers volunteering at her town’s bible camp, as well as working at a summer camp. She is really excited to be a part of the READ team and work with students to help them grow!

      Rachel Cacace is a senior student at The University of Tampa majoring in secondary education with a concentration in biology. Rachel enjoys biking throughout Tampa and looking for dolphins in the bay. She has spent the last few years tutoring and mentoring students and she is looking forward to working with the students at READ.

      Sydney Carroll is a rising senior at The University of Tampa. She is studying English Education and is aspiring to be a middle school English teacher. She has spent the past few years tutoring and teaching middle schoolers in the Tampa area. Sydney grew up in Connecticut, but now lives in South Carolina where she spends her free time at the beach with her family and dog.

      Kimberly Giangrasso is a sophomore at The University of Tampa majoring in Political Science on the Pre-Law track. Kimberly enjoys exploring the city of Tampa and finding new places to go to with her friends. She has been working as child caregiver during her time in Tampa. Kimberly is very excited to start working at READ and getting to know all the students!

      Gabrielle Highlander is a senior at the University of Tampa studying Human Performance and Exercise Science. She has always has a passion for working with kids and loves having that opportunity at READ. Gabrielle spends her summers nannying and volunteering as a 2 year old Sunday School teacher.

      Anastasia McGrath is an elementary education major, and Spanish minor at The University of Tampa.  As the oldest of six children her interest in helping others was sparked early.  “I had so much fun spending the last 10 years tutoring, babysitting, and volunteering in nursing homes and schools.”
